FInal

3 things that I learned during this class:

1) I think one of the biggest things I have learned is how to deal with Macs. I used to hate Macs from all the freezing and such that all my information and documents have been lost using the Macs. Now I feel comfortable using them and haven't had as many problems as I did previously.

2) I hardly ever mess with video cameras or anything to that effect. I loved working and making my IMovie and taught me that I could turn around and use this tool in the classroom to make movies for the students and give them out to the children. I think it would be a great learning experience for them.

3) I also had some experience making a website using a much more detailed software. Using the program we did to make our websites made things a lot easier and you didn't have to worry about any of the HTML codes. I will probably buy this software for my own computer as well.

Reflection on six classmates

Chris Schmidtberger- His was a very simple website. Some of the links didn't work and should look over things after he transmitted his site to the web.

Keri Sherman- She obviously put a lot of work into this website. She put her corrections class work on it and many other extra assignments on it. I thought it was cool to have a lot of pictures of herself on the website as well :).

Nikki Moody- I liked her ABC book a lot :). It had a lot of great pictures and she worked a long time on it. The pictures of her from places in Europe was really cool as well :). Well done

Ashley Feldcamp- I liked the calendar she added to her page. Great looking pages. Would be easy for an elementary school student to use!

Joan Steinkuhler- I really liked your website. It was colorful and I really liked the ABC book that had a story line of traveling that is a great idea and the students would like that a lot. Great job Joan :).

Kayla J- This is a great website it had a personable feel to it and showed her in the classroom. It was colorful and the only thing I would change is have the navigation bars throughout each page.

Personal Website- I loved doing this project and my personality was able to come out a little in it. Using the science and space themes would appeal to children a long with using a football theme for my ABC book would catch boys' attention. I think I could have done better on the professional side of things, but when I first thought of this concept I generally was thinking of a website students would enjoy to be on. I wasn't thinking of the professional side of having administrators looking at the website. I need to revise the website but still keep it enjoyable for children to go to.

U.S.-born don't learn the language easily

I have first hand knowledge of this being from Liberal. I think this is a huge problem having many individuals not even knowing the native language to this country. This state really stuck out for me as well a 2005 Urban Institute report found that 56 percent of children who enter high school with limited English proficiency are U.S.-born.

MySpace establishes election hub for young voters

Being able to use technology to discuss and explore an event that will impact the nation in the long runwill benefit students and teachers a like. Using myspace to explore the presidental debate is very very clever way to promote the website and also teach students the basics of politics.

Class project: reading, rapping, history

This would be a fun activity to do! I would also have the student seperate into groups and make podcasts of their raps so others can hear them. Using music and other things across the curriculum is key to being an effective teacher.

Laptops replace textbooks in Louisiana district

This is amazing to me. I didn't think any school district or any school would ever get rid of their textbooks to move digitally. My question is how well has this worked and at what cost did they make this change. If it is something that works, i would wonder how much it costs to make that switch.

"Digital Decade" report outlines progress, future of technology

I was shocked that 95 percent of schools have high speed internet excess that would allow any student the opportunity to use technolgoy! The fact that you have the technology doesn't however mean that a teacher will embrase it and use it in every day class it's insane. Teachers and students a like should dtry to work with each other to discover many different way on how to use this technology and how to use the computers that are prrovided.

New teacher portal for PBS resources

In order to teach effectively you have to go out and find things have worked in the past. Using this website teachers areused to gather useful material and get ideas for lesson plans for free. I just really like the idea to make technology be a focal part of student.

If wired right, computers do belong in classrooms

This article disucsses different math and reading software that seems out of date and doesn't teach the student as they should. Keeping up to date and being able to show growth in those areas is a har thing to do.

MySpace enforcer patrols virtual streets to keep kids safe

What has happened to today's society? I think this article shows how sick some individuals are. How could a person use myspace to fulfill some type of fantasy they have? This is similar to the popular show "To Catch a Predator" which catches pedafiles beofre they are able to harm some young individual. Also bullying is a fact of life but some take this way to far and injure the student in a variety of ways.

Video system helps create multimedia curriculum

I think this is a great idea! As a teacher I could have students watch a video that would impact them more then having them listen to a lecture of some sort of me. I think that students learn in a lot of different ways and also need a break from the normal lecture style classroom environment.

Study eyes effect of tech on classroom

Ruling: Student rights extend to MySpace postings

I think this is crazy. How can a student or anyone else for that matter be sentenced to a crime for speaking their mind on a blog on a popular web community site? What happened to freedom of speech?

When digital kids rule the classroom

This article touches on the concept of having tech savy students teach the teacher on how to use the technology they have int he classroom. I believe that this is a great idea! Students today know more about computers then the average teacher and will be able to be motivated and willing to experiment and try new things if this was the case. I know when I was put into a similar situation I loved the fact that I got to tell an adult about something I knew about.

Blogs aren't the enemy

This article talks about the miss use of blogging. The blog is suppose to be a way to communicate and show what you have learned or what you think on a particular assignment. Some teachers however; use blogging as just a writing assignment asking students to put what they think on a subject and giving them a grade for doing this. One way to elimenate this is to give students feed back whether that be you writing on their blog giving them something else to think about or bringing the discussion back into the classroom which will help students feel good and take responsiblity for their blogging.

The One-to-One Tsunami

This article is about the microsoft promise that there would be "one to one" ratio of computers to students in the classroom. I think that technology is a key in today's classroom environment and we should embrase the technology around us. This would teach students and teachers a like to use technology in appropriate ways which will in turn raise moral and motivation of the students to work harder. The article also touched on why this dream hasn't been reached and what things can be done to change it.
